Sun Breaks Through After The Rain

Driving home after a photo assignment, I was entranced by the sun breaking through the storm clouds at sunset.

I’m glad I had my camera set for 3 exposures, -1 ev, 0 ev, +1 ev (dark, normal, light exporue).

I let some of the traffic get in front of me at the red light, and waited until the lights turned green (better color mix to my thinking).

Click, Click, Click - or Whap, Whap, Whap for those imagining the camera’s mirror flapping up and down 3 times.

A bit of post processing using Photomatix Pro and here you go.

Rich blues, the band of sunset gold at the horizon, and the green, copper, and red adding vibrancy to the mix.

Yummy for my eyes!

Sunset View

From the recent past today.

A view of the sunset on the Atlantic Ocean at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

This is another of my High Dynamic Range photos. Three exposures combined with Photomatix Pro software assisting.

The scent of Spring is in the air. Refreshing after last week’s snow storm and blizzard. The temperatures reached near 50 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale yesterday and the sun is beaming all day long.

Seasonal change.

Dock at Sunset

One from our vacation in November, 2006 at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

I took three exposures and ran them through Photomatix Pro software, which helps create a high dynamic range picture.

I like the pastel colors of the wood and the sunset light on it.

Very soothing.

Since the forcast tonight is for 6-12 inches of snow here, I’m happy to be reminded that warmer days are ahead.

Tower to a star

Do you know Barack Obama?

He’s going to make his official announcement that he’s running for President tomorrow in my town of Springfield, Illinois USA.

He’ll be on the grounds of the Old State Capitol, where Abraham Lincoln served in the House of Representatives. A few blocks from Abe’s home, and a couple of miles from where Abe’s remains are entombed.

I think Mr. Obama is making use of the symbolism of announcing his candidacy in the small town where Lincoln lived and served.

I’m not sure what made me think of Mr. Obama when I looked at this photo I took last night. Perhaps it’s the symbolism of the church bell tower calling the faithful to prayer which reminded me of the symbolic use of this city of Lincoln by the Presidential hopeful.

I hope for many things in life. I hope tomorrow’s political rally is peaceful and shines a spotlight on the good in our town.

Kind of like wishing on a star, hope is.

One Eye Focus

Stinking cold today, colder tomorrow, coldest on Monday.

No clouds in the sky, at all. Mucho Bright all afternoon, after I escaped from my weekend of work. Too bright to do much picture taking. So I waited.

At home later, here I was and all of a sudden the golden hour announced itself. “Here I am, come and use me please!” The sun said.

Grabbed my new Pentax K10D and put on the super smooth and luscious 50mm 1.4 lens. Mounted it to my gorilla-pod and started framing and capturing with a 2 second delay.

This lens has a way narrow Depth of Field - narrow focus - when wide open. I kept focusing on the whiskers at the side of my face. Ha!

Here’s one that looks ok, according my my eyes, and my son Christopher’s.

Here’s looking at you, kid. =)

Every Window Tells A Story

From the parking lot at work tonight. Looking back at all the windows.

Every window tells a story.

I have always liked the coppery color of these windows. At sunset, they glow with the fire at the heart of the sun. At sunrise, they reflect the brilliant rays of the morning.

WIthin these walls, care and concern for hundreds of thousands of citizens occurs all through the day.

Behind these windows, hundreds of people work to make someone’s life a bit better.

Dreamy

Mrs. Bell’s Tower Of Power

At dusk on a Friday evening.

I waited for the twilight sky.

Set up my camera on a Joby Gorillapod. Manual exposure. Varried the apature and shutter-speed to let more or less light in.

Took about 30 captures.

Chose 4 of them and swizzled them in PhotomatixPro and Paint Shop Pro XI.

The jet contrails are a bonus. Interesting how they are just there in a part of the frame.

I love the blues of twilight when the sky is clear.

This tower has been here since the days of Ma Bell, the old AT&T. Now, full circle, back in the hands of the new AT&T.
