I’m glad I had my camera set for 3 exposures, -1 ev, 0 ev, +1 ev (dark, normal, light exporue).
I let some of the traffic get in front of me at the red light, and waited until the lights turned green (better color mix to my thinking).
Click, Click, Click - or Whap, Whap, Whap for those imagining the camera’s mirror flapping up and down 3 times.
A bit of post processing using Photomatix Pro and here you go.
Rich blues, the band of sunset gold at the horizon, and the green, copper, and red adding vibrancy to the mix.
Yummy for my eyes!
A view of the sunset on the Atlantic Ocean at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
This is another of my High Dynamic Range photos. Three exposures combined with Photomatix Pro software assisting.
The scent of Spring is in the air. Refreshing after last week’s snow storm and blizzard. The temperatures reached near 50 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale yesterday and the sun is beaming all day long.
Seasonal change.
I took three exposures and ran them through Photomatix Pro software, which helps create a high dynamic range picture.
I like the pastel colors of the wood and the sunset light on it.
Very soothing.
Since the forcast tonight is for 6-12 inches of snow here, I’m happy to be reminded that warmer days are ahead.
I waited for the twilight sky.
Set up my camera on a Joby Gorillapod. Manual exposure. Varried the apature and shutter-speed to let more or less light in.
Took about 30 captures.
Chose 4 of them and swizzled them in PhotomatixPro and Paint Shop Pro XI.
The jet contrails are a bonus. Interesting how they are just there in a part of the frame.
I love the blues of twilight when the sky is clear.
This tower has been here since the days of Ma Bell, the old AT&T. Now, full circle, back in the hands of the new AT&T.

Candle Glow
Karen received this nice candle. It’s a wax cylinder with different wood and paper embedded into the walls. At the bottom is a short platform which holds a tea candle. Very nice light.
Candles must touch some deep gene for the wonder of fire.
I’m pushing the limits of noise on this with my Panasonic FZ-30. Soon will have a Pentax K10D in my photo toolkit.
This glow helped to wash away the greyness of the weather today. Very overcast and gloomy all day long.
I hope there’s a candle glowing where you are to remind you of the fire of the sun that’s behind the clouds of today.

Whisps of Healing
A local hospital, St. John’s, has this tall stack.
I thought of taking another steam rising picture, and spied this after work tonight.
Six photos, Photomatix Pro and a bunch of post processing - still not happy with it, but I called it quits and here it is. I may go back later to work on it some more. Digital helps.
St. John’s Hospital is a house of healing. My dad was an Obstetrician-Gynecologist here. He delivered over 10,000 newborns in his practice, most of them here. I’ve grown up and older with St. John’s playing many roles in my life. From birth, tonsillectomy, working there around High School, our son was born there, my bride, Karen worked there Summers when she was a Elementary teacher, to my arm surgery of last year. My Karen Sue does her part to keep the flow of healing in her job there.
Healing is a miracle often aided by others ministering to our wounds. I hope you experience the loving touch of healing in your life.

Steam Heat On A Cold WInter’s Eve
Another High Dynamic Range photo for today’s POTD.
Glancing out a window at work during a meeting today I was directed to take a look at all the steam coming off off the top of this building. It was in the 20’s (F) today and 19 F. when I took this. Bitter cold with a wind chill of 9 degrees F. Brrrrrrrrr.
I sure take for granted all the benefits of living in a technologically advanced society. Electricity and running water and sewer are just 3 of the basics which I’ve recently said “Thank God I have these.” During the ice storm of 1/13-14 2007, we lost power for just 90 minutes. Enough to quickly realize how dependent I am on the electrical generation grid. No lights, heat, tv, Internet (OH NO!), radio, refrigeration, etc. We’ve had problems with our sewer and not being able to use water or flush the loo, WC, toilet commode or whatever you call it, was very pointedly inconvenient.
The miracles of electricity, clean water and a sewage system were all hard fought here and in every place where they are newly wrought. I am reminded of how delicate and precious these works are, when they are removed from my easy reach by Nature or accident.
Stay warm, Friend, and remember those without.
