Wind and Wires

There’s wind farms that dot the prairie landscape that we pass by while driving north.

I find these gigantic pinwheels of electricity to be fascinating.

I recall seeing these huge curved objects, strapped to flatbed railroad cars that, if I remember correctly were specially made just for their huge length. As one after another passed in front of my car, stopped at the railroad crossing those many years ago, it took me a bit to figure out what they were. Seeing the curve and wing-like taper to the metal finally made it click in my brain. At that time, I could only guess at how these blades would look when in place.

Now, as I drive up north on occasion, I’m reminded of that first sight of these blades.

I’m still in awe of the engineering feat to design and maintain these generators of power.
