The Morning Climb

This morning, we left our family’s friendly inn for wayward uncles, and made our way to the east coast. The early sun was above the trees and the light was casting great shadows and sparkles on the steep driveway.

I already had my camera in hand. A quick few takes at composition and away we went.

This driveway is so steep, I call it the “Driveway From Hell” when I was describing it to my niece prior to arriving. I was confirming that they hadn’t moved and recalling my last visit there.

Don’t get me wrong, the home is magnificent in many ways. The back view is completely private onto a steep woods with a creek running at the bottom. That alone makes it a refuge of calm. That my niece and her beau, my nephew-in-law, and their three children make the home a source of energy, love as well as a peaceful family abode, makes it a home that is unique and welcoming.

That 30 degree climb out onto the main road is a nail biter for this uncle who needs to visit more often.

Perhaps I’ll get used to it. The visit is worth the short nails.

  1. I agree that driveway is a bummer but well worth the joy of the family that abides at the end of it! I can’t imagine doing it in ice and snow!

  2. The parking spots are scary. It’s one of the only times I use my parking brake. =)

  3. It is a nice view; from hell, that is.
