Carrie

Carrie is so animated, that I had a hard time getting a simple smile from her, in the precious few moments I had.

Carrie and my nephew-in-law Terry, were hosting a family reunion for Terry’s side of the family. Karen and I were there to enjoy the company, see my niece’s home for the first time, and document the time for Terry’s family.

After taking some group portraits, I asked Carrie to sit for a minute and talk. My secondary motive was to grab a portrait with that luscious window light that was wrapping around Carrie’s face. I got several shots off, but this one intrigued me the most. The hand gestures add a lot to the image. The partial smile, and those lovely, intelligent eyes.

Thanks for sitting for me, Carrie. Next time, I’ll do more direction, to get my Mona Lisa moment from you. I do love this one though, no mistake about it.

  1. As her younger sister, I’ve seen this look a thousand times. And you’re right — a look can say a lot. I can almost hear the words coming out of her mouth. She’s spirited, animated, loving, compassionate, inquisitive and contemplative all wraped up in one wonderful woman. Thanks for capturing this thoughtful candid, Uncle Matt. It’s a treasure.

  2. Thank you, Sarah, for coming up with the words that help paint the portrait I was seeing.
