No Skating – Yet

The ice has just about covered the whole of the lagoon at Washington Park.

There’s just a little bit still open where the ducks, geese and other fowl were gathered for their icy float for food.

There’s “No Skating” signs up, warning folks that the ice isn’t thick enough to venture about just yet. If the temperatures stay down, the ice will grow thick enough. Then the skaters will be out, pushing the snow away, to get a smooth enough surface for ice time.

It might be a while. Forecast is calling for 47F on Monday. We’ll just have to wait and see, as usual with any attempts to predict the weather

The forest and trees with the blanket of snow is what really had me stop as I was passing through the park tonight. I like to traipse through snow-covered forests. If there’s no trails, I find that even more of an exhilarating thrill. Uncharted territory, every step an adventure.

Finally winter has come to Central Illinois.

I look forward to what each cold day brings.
