No Turning Back

“Into the distance, a ribbon of black, stretched to the point of no turning back.” – David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) from the song “Learning to Fly”

These lyrics came to me as I spent time with this image, after working on it tonight in Lightroom. The song is one of my favorites of the group Pink Floyd. It speaks of striking out on a new course, as the band was doing at that time, with one of their primary song writers having just left the group.

These geese were filling the skies today. I kept seeing flocks of flapping wings in “V” formation, all heading generally south for warmer weather.

Many folks speak of making changes, resolutions for better health, new directions. Taking advantage of turning the page on the calendar year tomorrow for a new start, a renewal of commitment. I find myself seeing change and changing myself this year.

Today, my sister and I helped our older sister make the final moves from one home to another. Yesterday was my final day in one career, as I make a transition to the next. This week we enjoyed the company of Karen’s Aunt Kay, my mother-in-law’s twin sister, for what could turn out to be a final visit between these two octogenarians. On and on, and on, these events mark pivotal points.

The geese give me hope.

There is no turning back, of the clock, and many other choices that we make or are made to affect us.

But there is a joy in the journey.
