Close Up Butterfly

A butterfly, up close, as it seeks out nourishment from a blooming sedum plant.

What fascinates me most is the proboscis that curves down 90 degrees from the insect, to slurp up the nectar that is in the flowers. It’s amazing what nature fashions for survival.

I had to look up the differences between butterflies and moths to determine which this was. The long antennae and proboscis is what sealed the identification. Moths antennae are short, and they don’t have a proboscis.

The things I learn by taking pictures of the world around me.

in my younger days, I used to read random volumes of the 1947 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica that we had in our house. Now, I use resources such as Wikipedia to educate myself on things unknown that need to be discovered and learned.

There’s always something new to learn.
