I saw that the State Capitol building had turned on the Christmas lights for the season, and made my way to a closer location. While heading that way, I thought, this might be a good opportunity for a quick high dynamic range (HDR) photograph, so I set up the camera for that when I found a parking spot.
It’s far from what I was looking for. I’m chalking this up to a test run. Trying out a new angle on the old building. The sky was settling into that deep blue of a post-sunset sky, about to fade to black. The wispy clouds were moving a bit fast across the sky. The traffic was nearly continuous. I didn’t have my tripod with me (Shocking, I know) so I jury-rigged a setup on the top of my car, using my camera strap and a rubber-gripped ball point pen.
I got the charm of the building, the string of lights, but the sky isn’t what I was wanting, and the top of the dome is all off in exposure. I’ll return to this and similar locations around the building over the next month. I have to do this before they turn the lights off after the turn of the new year.
The problem with photography and testing in a live location, you only get one go at it. The same conditions will never occur again.
Life itself is the same. A reminder for me, that I best put my all into the present moment. I will never see it come again.

I like the glow at the top. It makes me think of a star!
