Relaxed

So instead of our annual by the Christmas Tree family portrait, here’s one of the four of us post-sunset at the Atlantic Ocean. Of course, Karen has declared that we shall also be required to pose by the tree. I shall do my best to make that happen.

We were a bit tired, having trekked through a fair portion of the 600+ acre Sea Pines Preserve with it’s “Vanishing Swamp” and boardwalk across the rice fields. Our bodies may have been more than ready for the couch, comfy chair or a good hot tub soak, but there’s one thing that we definitely are: relaxed.

That’s the whole purpose of our vacations, to relax and take time out from busy lives so we can refresh our spirit. We enjoy making those treks in nature, tasting new foods and meeting new people. We may do bits of those things in our regular lives, but on vacation, we make it a vocation to expand our horizons as well as taking time to do not much at all.

The beach was a popular spot for Chris & Jennie. Their beach chairs and e-readers got a workout while they rested and let the sun, sand and surf soak in. Karen & I enjoyed being together much of each day, whether walking, talking, or in just being nearby as we each did our own thing. Together, we spent time in nature walks, sharing meals and talking about this, that and nothing.

This portrait was a spur-of-the-moment decision, much like everything during our stay here has been. I saw the sunset, and asked about doing our portrait, originally planned for the beach at some future sunset. Everybody was up for it and that, was that. We no longer had “The Beach Portrait” hanging over us. Done and done.

We could relax just that little bit more.

  1. What a beautiful family! You’d never guess you guys were tired or had a long day. Fantastic portrait, Matt; and what splendid smiles! The best.

  2. Thank you, kindly, Nick. Remind me to tell you how Chris interpreted our different smiles. It’s a hoot.

  3. Fantastic. You guys don’t look remotely tired, but you definitely look relaxed and happy. =) Way better than the way I spent my day…up on the roof slathering the crap out of it with roof cement. Yay me! =) hehe

  4. Thank you, Jewell. I hope your slathering yields a cozy and dry abode. The sun is just up here over the water horizon and we are about to head home.

  5. Did Chris jump in at the last moment or you? Nice photo!

  6. Love the photo. Chris sure does look like his daddy. You really do not look tired.

  7. Trish – I started laughing and it was infectious.

Fran – Thank you. I’ll tell Chris that you see the strong resemblance. We had just walked back into the condo, and had enough energy for this, especially knowing that it was taking one task off our short list of “To-Do’s”
