I actually woke up before sunrise.
I think it has something to do with the spate of earthquakes of late. To be clear, I never wake before sunrise unless I have an alarm clock and a required reason to prod me from my prodigious stupor and into action.
I had told my bride, the ever so early-bird Karen Sue, that I wanted to be out there at least a couple of times this week, when she goes on her pre-dawn beach excursions. I wanted to share the first light along with the lull of the crashing waves watching the cresting sun arise above the distant horizon.
I thought I would be setting my alarm, but didn’t the first night, as the long road had me weary and longing for an extended spell under the sheets, asleep.
I was up before Karen. An hour before Karen. In deep dark, before Karen.
I huddled under the covers to hide my smartphone’s glowing screen from her, lest she take it for the light of the coming dawn. I poked my head up after a bit of reading, and noticed the change in the light that is a telling talisman of the break of dawn. I stirred into action and Karen popped up, fully awake and ready to pound sand to commune with the ocean and sun.
This time I was with her.

Well I have to say I am with you. For the most part. Anyone (regardless of whether or not they are attached to 2 legs or 4) waking me up before the crest of the sun is under threat of death from me. I’ve never been a morning person and don’t expect that it’s going to change. =) However, I have to say it was worth it. =) I’m guessing a nap came later?
A kindred spirit! Nap was elusive and I’m still up. Tomorrow better dawn without me, or I will be napping for certain! Thank you, Jewell (I need to catch up on comments)
