As we were coming home this evening from our usual Sunday afternoon visit with my in-laws, I remarked to Karen that I had not taken any photographs today, and would have to dip into my catalog for today’s post. She quickly came back with “Put up one of the close-up portraits of Kelly. They’re beautiful!”
I agree with Karen.
The whole purpose of the session with Kelly “Mochamomma” was to capture her spirit of fun in the travelling red dress. I kept wanting to get closer head-and-shoulder portrait captures, because of how beautiful Kelly is, and the way the sunset light was causing her skin to glow.
I finally asked if I could move in closer for a few, and Kelly agreed. After I showed her the first one I took, she took a sharp inward breath and exclaimed: “Ohhhhhhhh!!!” That’s what I was doing inside, without saying it. I was happy she saw how wonderful she looked.
I took a few up close, with the creek-bed and woods nearly in the dark just before the sun slipped below the horizon. This one was balanced by my off camera flash, held by my able HLS (Human Light Stand), my partner in life, Karen Sue. I lucked out with how well the balance of light came out.
Kelly glows with an inner spirit that just cannot be contained. It bursts forth in her interaction with others, her wonderful smile and those luminescent but impish eyes. I do believe I caught all of that in this one.
Thank you, Mochamomma, for the privilege of capturing your beauty, both inside and out.

No way! Thank YOU. I am lucky to meet such great people in my life and I am so glad to know you. This was one of my favorite shots (though it is HARD to determine because so many you took were so great!)
gorgeous!
