For my great niece Ellie’s baptism family gathering I took a ton of photos. Going through them to select the ones to process and post for family and friends, this one had me stop and soak it in.

Tears came to me as I saw the depth of love and devotion that Katherine has for her Ellie.

The baby is peacefully asleep, after a long day of people and places, many of them brand new to her. Katherine had been looking at Ellie, giving her gentle kisses on the forehead and wiping away any evidence of the kiss. She looked up and I grabbed this image.

There’s a lot in those eyes.

Love, exhaustion, hope, pride, and lots of happiness.

There are times when I look through pictures that I’ve taken and see more than what I saw the moment I took the photograph. This was one, where the more I looked at the image, the more moved I became at the depth of emotion captured in that instant of time.

I’m glad I was there to grab this slice of life to be able to savor it over and over again.
