I took a short stroll around the perimeter of our home as the evening sun was heading towards the horizon, on the lookout for bits of here and there that called out “Hey, it’s Autumn!” to me.
This leaf, fallen from the maple tree, lay on the exposed aggregate of the concrete sidewalk. The sun was lighting up the back of the leaf, making it glow, and casting a long shadow. I bent down and put my camera on the pebbly surface, and gently moved it closer until the focus was just right. I had a fairly wide open aperture of f4 on the wonderful vintage Vivitar 28mm f2 Close Focus lens that is fully manual. It works wonders with light, especially in the out of focus area.
The green reminds me that it is still a season of growth, even as the colors are turning from predominately green to shades of red, orange, brown and yellow. Some of the grass is growing, where there’s been enough rain to encourage the growth of roots, readying for the long cold and dark of winter.
The season is full of changes.
This week the temperatures are teasing us, rising up and the jackets are mostly put away unless braving the dark of night. One day it could be 80F and the next 60F.
The constant is change.
Such is life.
