Statuesque

Cats make for such charming test subjects when testing out camera gear.

I was checking out my camera in preparation of lending it to my son Chris. He’s got a special project going tomorrow and needed some of my gear. I was testing the settings, making sure I didn’t have any strange setting left turned on by mistake. It’s a habit of mine, to do a thorough check the night before any event. I learned early on, that a simple missed setting can ruin a whole set of precious memories. It pays to do meticulous and repeated preparation. It becomes a good habit.

That said, Smokey was happy to have me home and interested in things going on outside. Both cats, Smokey & Sissy, crave the attention when I walk in from an extended absence. I comply with generous scratching of necks and near massage-like stroking of their soft, silky fur. After a while, they carry on, but always within close proximity to one or the other of us the rest of the time we’re in the house. For example, as I write this, both are just a few steps away. Both in full relax mode, stretched out full length. One sound from me besides the typing on my keyboard, and their heads pop up and swivel to my direction.

I grabbed this one fast, as I saw the statuesque pose that Smokey had taken on the top of the sun room couch. The window light was putting a nice white edge to her gray fur. Her eyes were glowing as she stared at what was likely a bird or a squirrel in the tree just outside the windows.

The simple pleasures of an early evening spent with a couple of loving cats. Very relaxing stuff.
