My Karen Sue & I during our meandering through the Art Museum in Forest Park, part of St. Louis, Missouri.
The museum is in the middle of a major addition and several galleries were bare, but there was plenty of art to fill us up on an otherwise rainy day. From ancient carvings, to Titian to Picasso, our eyes feasted on a huge variety of the best pieces.
Being able to enjoy the day, free from the cares of the world, and with my lifelong partner and bride, my dearest Karen Sue, that was a precious gift.
At one point, in a gallery of very ancient warrior masks and implements of war, Karen said: “I’m not getting much out of this, could you help me?” Sure, done and done. Fortunately there were many other more accessible pieces and collections to take in.
I was surprised at the way one massive installation, which took up one wall of a large gallery, changed before my eyes as I sat for a few minutes and lingered to take it in. What might seem like chaos, touched me. I only then approached the card on the wall next to it and read that it was a depiction of the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident. That made the connection come alive and validate my own response.
Taking time to sit and ponder. It was worth the effort today.
