Formed & Reformed

A simple brick.

Look closer and I find the earth dug up, pressed into shape, fired up, and fitted together one upon another with other bits of earth, held together by the alchemy of the bricklayer’s art.

Those bits of sand and gravel that make up the mortar that fill the holes in the brick, they come from thousands of years of water, flowing over rock to break down into small pieces that are here re purposed as a binding medium.

Some day, this brick will be broken too. Broken down by weather, rain, sun and wind, into bits, that might find their way back into the earth. Perhaps back into clay once again, others perhaps into stone.

The cycle repeats on and on.

Purpose, and re-purpose. Formed and reformed.

Such is life.

My life.

Your life.

There’s meaning in there. In the moments of living, and having a purpose, we live to the full.

  1. A really neat shot. Great composition of the sweeping arc of marching brick lines; with eyes staring back at you. Like an art museum piece.
