I must be returning to the pursuits of my youth. I seem to be spending much more time outside these days, exploring and having fun doing so.
I grew up on a 13+ acre piece of land which had all manner of out of doors places to play in. Fruit orchard, 200 yard driveway, pond, creek, hills and forest, a gold-mine for a young lad to enjoy hours and hours outside. Because I grew up with such bounty, I didn’t appreciate it much, until it was way long gone.
Now, I seem to be gravitating to enjoying the outside as one gigantic playground to explore and to document with my cameras. A side benefit is the exercise is good for me, but I’ll not dwell on that too much. It’s more fun to see it as an adventure waiting for me to experience.
Fish Haul Creek Park, is a small (19 acres) park, tucked away in the heel of the foot-shaped island known as Hilton Head. Karen & I have been here before, and enjoyed it’s charming forest, and expansive beach. We returned to feast once more on the light filtered by the green canopy of pines and other trees, to tread lightly on the bed of pine needles and leaves that make up the paths, and to explore the vast beach front.
Karen went far out onto the sand bars which are revealed at low tide, which just happen to coincide with our visit. She was about 300 yards off the high tide shoreline, while I stayed up on the dry sand, walking along the shore to see what could be seen.
This is of the late afternoon sunlight filtering through the forest trees to shine on the lower vegetation.
Looks like a fun place to explore, doesn’t it?

It reminds me of my favorite place in my mind, Across the creek up on the hilside with jack in the pulputs and dutchman’s breeches. I wonder if they are in bloom yet?
Striking. A burst of light that could serve as a warning or an inspiration.
