There’s so much in this photograph.
What pulled at me to take it, was the backdrop of the blue & white sky, with the stark branches of the tree. What makes it even more interesting, and why I chose it, is the feeling of the slow passage of time in winter.
The elements and textures here are touchstones for emotions. Snow, ice, small and larger rocks, the last few leaves left in the trees bare branches, the flare of the sun, the large white clouds in the vast blue sky. Notice that the back of the tree is plastered with snow.
I left the horizon tilted, didn’t correct it in post-processing, because the tree is straight. I wanted to keep that emphasis on the tree.
Everything in life is in constant motion, time moves from moment to moment in unending march, yet this scene has such stillness to it.
What lies beneath the ground are the roots of the tree, soaking up moisture and food, readying itself for the call of Spring. Then it will push up and out with new growth, turning on it’s oxygen factory, converting light into the energy needed for it’s appointed tasks.
Until then, it waits, standing as a reminder that there is a season for everything under the sun.

I like the way you fill the upper frame with the twisting limbs of the stark, dormant tree, and the color contrasts above in the sky and below in the shimmering ice; craggy rocks.
