Look closely and you see a small flock of geese, flying off low to the ice, heading away from me. Off they go, into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun (From The Air Force Song, the official song of the United States Air Force – source: Wikipedia )
After church and a family lunch, I took off for the shores of Lake Springfield. The lake is mostly iced over, and with the nice display of clouds and blue sky, I knew that I would find some vista of interest.
I saw this flock of geese near the “Dividing Dam” fishing spot. I pulled down into the parking strip that parallels the shoreline and got out, already having had the ultra-wide Sigma 10-20mm lens on my camera.
That’s when I spotted and heard the thousands of geese that are off to the right of this frame. It was amazing to hear this flock start up their honking as I approached, calling a warning to the rest of the flock. I was hoping that they would all take off, but they were smarter than that. The outer bunch just crowded a bit further away from me and that was it.
I turned my attention to this smaller group, and was rewarded with about half of them taking off. The wide view makes it hard to see, but if you look at it large here: you can see them in mid-flight.
A simple walk outside.
Sure, it was cold. The wind wasn’t too brisk, the sun was shining bright and the view was worth the effort.
Nice.

Terrific combination of curves, angles, colors and textures, and wildlife in flight to boot. No easy task, and well done by you.
