Zooming down the highway, clouds to the left of me, clouds at my right, what was I to do?
Roll down my windows, take the previously set up camera, the awesome Pentax K20D, in my hand with the ultra-wide Sigma 10-20mm on it and let it start gathering in light.
This one is north of the airport (SPI) and on the way to Athens, Illinois. There’s a wide open space, with no poles, wires or obstructions. A nice gentle curve to the left and starting up a hill. A wonderful place for a portrait of the wide open prairie sky.
Soybean and corn fields paint a nice stroke of green, mushed out of focus due to the slow shutter and fast car. No cars for quite a ways in either direction. I was playing it as safe as possible. One handed framing is becoming a learned talent through trial and error.
A bit of tweaking in Lightroom, and Bob’s Your Uncle, here you are.
Put that in your dream and savor it.

If anyone doubts the lure and beauty of the prairie, this extraordinary shot answers it all.
