Maui – North Shore

Dipping into the treasure trove of photos from our trip to Hawaii last year.

Karen & I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on this trip. This is from our twisty, turny, green and blue road to Hana trip.

We were at Karen’s folks today, a Sunday tradition of visiting family. During the conversation today, we strolled down memory lane, talking about how things were when we first got married. We laughed and enjoyed those memories.

Going back through these photos brought that trip and the fun we had to mind.

Reminiscing through the photos. A nice way to relive the journey.

End of the Day – Maui

We visited two islands during our trip last year to Hawaii. Maui and Kauai.

This is the sunset from our last day on Maui.

Simply wonderful.

Googly Eyes

I was heading to bed late last night and saw these eyes staring at me from the couch.

The light was spilling onto those googly eyes. Staring at me.

I stopped in my tracks and grabbed the camera off the near by table.

Hard to stop seeing photographs everywhere. Even in the dark.

Karen Sue Sunset

Karen spent her afternoon working on the various plots of garden around the house.

I went out at sunset, hoping to head out with Karen to grab some photos.

Instead, I saw the light on her eyes, and we spent a few moments together.

I love how you can see the sunset in the reflection of her glasses.

Witness to Spring

I spotted this periwinkle (vinca) flower as I was pulling into my driveway tonight.

A little spot of lavender amidst the deep green and brown.

I love how the sun, in that golden hour of light, was shining directly on the face of the flower.

I pulled out my Pentax K20D, which already had the Sigma 17-70mm Macro attached. This lens allows for real closeups as well as normal length photos.

I crouched down and started to try different angles to get the best view. This periwinkle and I got to know each other well over the five or ten minutes I spent, working the angles and manual focus.

Of course, this is the last of the few photos I took.

Some green leaves, some brown, dead leaves and twigs, a couple of un-opened blooms. This grouping has a lot going for it.

The best is that green leaf in the upper left, reaching upwards, and the beauty of the open flower, soaking up the last of the first Spring day’s sunlight.

That lucky old sun, and me.

Shallow Green

A closeup of the hybiscus plant leaf in my office.

The plant has leaves that are 20 inches or longer, sprouting from the single bulb.

No bloom yet.

I have hope for a nice bloom one day.

I do my part. Sunlight, water, and attention.

I’d say the plant is doing it’s part. It looks healthy and green.

This slice of focus is exactly what I was going for. A very narrow depth of field, against that marvelous green.

Nice for the first day of Spring.

Who Do?

Who Do That VooDoo That You Do So Well?

Who Dat?

Me.

Taken by Chris Penning. Thank you, Chris!

I was testing a new piece of photo equipment, The Orbis Ring Flash. It’s an adaptor for a shoe-mount flash that converts the flash into a nice ring flash.

A ring flash produce near shadow free lighting and unique catch-lights in the eyes. The major shadow being the outline of the subject. The Orbis is over half the cost of a dedicated ring light. I think I’m going to have fun with this tool.

When we first started taking test photos, I had my glasses on. Chris asked me to take them off and this is the result.

I took a look at the photo on the camera and exclaimed: “Wow, I look old!” Chris said: “You are!” We chuckeled at that bit of self-awareness via photo evidence.

Age creeps up on us all.

There’s something about taking my glasses off which put the punch in the ‘old’ look when I look at this.

Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.
