Light Leaves

For a pocket point & shoot, I’m very impressed with what I can get out this camera. The Panasonic LX3.

The turning leaves lit up by the street light. A real sense of the Autumn night in front of my house.

This is taken from the sidewalk by my driveway. I’m looking away from my home, through the tree towards my neighbors across the street.

I usually walk up the sidewalk to our front door, instead of going through the garage on the lower level. It gives me just a bit of the out of doors, of nature.

The canopy of leaves alight with the streetlight caught my eye and begged to be photographed.

I’m glad my camera was up to the task, and that I gave it a go.

Checking the post box at the curb in front of my home for the daily mail.

I noticed my sharp shadow, and pulled out my camera.

I accentuated the colors a bit, to give it some heightened interest.

Mr. Shadow, checking his mail.

Mr. Hand basks in the sunlight.

I recall an old TV show, “The Addams Family” which was modeled after a famous print cartoon by Charles Adams. One of the characters in the family was “Thing” a childhood friend of Gomez Addams, which was seen only as a disembodied hand.

I saw the ray of sunlight on the wall and put my hand up in a slightly curled, grasping pose and here you are.

Perhaps it’s because I never look at my eyes, through the normal course of the day (except through the bleary mist of morning in the mirror), that I get interested in photographing my own eyes.

Since today is Halloween, I’m thinking this would be a scary enough photo to fit the theme.

Booo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Symmetry

I had my camera in hand when I walked into choir practice tonight. Handy practice, to be ready.

This plant caught my eye. The symmetry of the pattern on this leaf stands out.

I have no idea what plant this is. I’ll update this when I find out.

Update: Thanks to TulipFleurs, a fellow Flickrian, this appears to be a Red-Veined Prayer Plant (Marantaceae)!

I do know that the miracle of Nature’s creation delights my eye in this leaf. Amazing that the plant grew into this pattern, without knowing that it would please my eye. For some unknown reason, the inexorable tiny changes over time, pushed this plant into expressing this beauty.

I don’t need to know why, I’m just glad I was happy to stop and enjoy it. Now, sharing it with you.

Under the street light, which was lighting up the turning leaves.

I let the light put a glow on me, and grabbed this one in front of our home.

At the end of a long day, another self portrait. I’m in the home stretch. I feel a bit stagnant on creativity in my self portraits. I’m going to commit to give myself another boost to try out new angles and techniques in the final 60 or so.

Look for the results of my kick in the creative pants soon. =)

Highway Scenery

I had just changed the oil in Karen’s car, and added some fuel injector clearer to the gas tank. I decided to take the car out for some highway miles just to get the cleaner working a bit better. Karen mostly drives back and forth to work, and on weekend errands, so the car needed to stretch it’s legs a bit.

I took my camera with me, and was anticipating getting some sunset or near sunset opportunities.

The sky cooperated and put on a nice show for me. One other of this session set came out superb. In looking over the group again, this one stood out.

This is like the coming attractions movie trailer. The real event is just around the corner, a few minutes away, and this is the teaser.

Nice company on a quiet highway journey.
