149 of 366 Self Portraits

A repeat but different time of year, different lens. =)

My front door, me in the reflection of the storm door.

I was day-dreaming up new self portrait poses when I spied the reflection.

Different but the same.

One of the things I would do differently when we remodel next time, is to replace the front door. It’s nice and it does the job well. But, it’s original and seen better days. Nothing that the Historic Preservation Society would be alarmed by, me replacing this door from the early 1970’s. Least wise, that’s how I see it.

We had enough in the remodel budget to put French doors on our sunrrom, or replace the front door. My bride desired the French doors, and I found her irresistible. Still do but not on everything. =)

Plug at Rest

See the hole next to the plug of dirt?

It’s called soil aeration.

The intent is to give the grass some room to grow, the soil some room to breathe and to let nutrients get in.

I dunno, it sounds beneficial.

The countless soil plugs look like a herd of cats, having bowel problems, visited my lawn, leaving deposits. =)

With the rain we’ve been getting, these, which are about a month old, are almost fully dissolved back into the ground.

Makes for an interesting macro, though!

Inspired by one I saw recently in a photostream.

I took my glasses off for this one. I tried several with my eyes closed, several with them open.

I was in a quandary on which one to pick when my bride arrived home. She has a great sense of composition and “what looks good.”

I’m learning. Slowly. =)

I showed Karen my choices. She took instantly said “Pain” to the ones where I had my eyes closed. Interesting reaction. I’ll post one someday. This is Karen’s choice for today’s photo.

She likes to see my eyes open. Good thing too!

A facial study in lights and darks.

Gentlemen’s Lunch on the Prairie

I had to stop and grab this one.

Just the guys, hanging around during lunch-time.

This scene of bull cattle, feeding in a grass lot stopped me in my tracks.

Several things make it for me.

The gorgeous blue sky with wisps of white clouds, against the lush green grass and trees.

The gathering of male cattle, all heads down feeding, just begs for a catchy title.

So I slowed to a stop, with no traffic in either direction. Framed and snap. I did take two shots, as the first one wasn’t framed well.

I’m still chuckling over this one. =)

A Vertical View - At Karen’s Suggestion

Karen liked this view of yesterday’s photo better than the one I put up.

She, and she does have better artistic sense than me, I admit it, says it’s more interesting with the ceiling in full view.

Who am I to argue with my bride?

So as I was heading to bed last night, I thought of this pose.

My dreams were more pleasant. =)

I’m standing uder a fluorescent light fixture. Mugging for the camera in a “I’m shocked” type of pose.

I took a few snaps before I was happy. I wanted to get the mouth and eyes just right.

Shaking my head, going “why o why.” Why? Because I am deeply silly.

Before Restoration Begins

Soon this church will be closed for a year long restoration project.

You can see what part of a restored ceiling will look like in the upper right part of the frame.

The building was built in 1929, and has not seen a major face-lift since.

I tried to get inside earlier in the afternoon, but there was another event occurring. I came back a couple hours later and caught it mostly empty.

I took several shots, some vertical as well as in this one, horizontal. I liked the view of the horizontal better. It seems less intimidating and more welcoming.

I’ll come back after the restoration is complete to do an “after” photo for comparison.
