136 of 366 Self Portraits

I’m exploring natural lighting by the windows in my home.

This one is by the bay window in our Living Room (capitalized – the room we look at but seldom use).

I blew out the light a bit too much, but managed to recover most of it in Lightroom. I shoot in RAW format, which allows the exposure to be expanded or fixed somewhat more than a jpg format. Using RAW format, I interpret the data from the camera’s sensor using a RAW converter such as Adobe Lightroom. If I have the camera store the image as a jpg, the camera interprets the sensor data and “fixes” it in a more permanent jpg format. There’s still room for improvement using jpgs, but I prefer the wider wriggle room I get with RAW. Most Point & Shoot cameras cannot output in RAW, but I believe all DSLR cameras can. Ok Schools Out.

I like the bit of a smile, the slight tilt of the head. The light is smooth, except for the blown whites, and even those add to the portrait, in my eyes.

Then again, it’s me that’s the subject. I can’t help but be subjective! =)
