I was enjoying a bit of lunch in my office with co-workers. We celebrated Cinco de Mayo a day late with a Mexican-themed pot-luck.

I brought Eli’s Cheesecake Ole’ (I added the Ole’ part).

I noticed something different about the construction crane at St. John’s Hospital.

I took out my camera and put on my Tamron 70-300mm lens, which gives me around 450mm in 35mm film camera equivalent.

Sure enough, there was Greg Giddings, the crane operator, at the very end of the crane, doing something.

Wow!

250 feet or 76 meters above terra firma, with just a harness and a couple of safety lines.

My question was, “If he falls faint, who’s going to rescue him?”

Whatever he’s paid, it’s not enough. =)

I had read that he walked to the end of the crane at times, but this is the first I’ve seen him do it.

I’m glad I noticed it. Doubly glad I had both my camera and the telephoto lens with me. No luck involved there. I try to go everywhere, prepared for the next good photo opportunity.
