Ok - once again I stretch the self part of self portrait. =)

I set up the camera and showed my bride Karen on how, and when to take the photos I was looking for at yesterday’s wedding.

She did a great job. She took more than I was looking to get, and this one with me in the lower frame is one result.

I’m there, during the exchange of vows, getting the close-ups while Karen is catching the wide view.

We work well together as a team. It’s Karen’s first wedding as my assistant. She was a tremendous help to me and to our clients, the Shurigs. Both Mom & Dad as well as the wedding couple Rob & Najah, Karen was there giving superb assistance.

Thanks my dear Karen Sue for the help and the fun yesterday, and always. Thanks too for the great “Pseudo” Self Portrait. =)

The Image of My Beloved

A beautiful bride, a loving groom, reflecting the love for each other.

This mirror is beautiful. It is near floor length.

I had to use it to capture the portrait of this couple on their wedding day.

Can you tell they are deeply in love?

I sure can.

Had a ton of fun today photographing a wedding.

This is me, in the reflection of this marvelous near floor to ceiling mirror.

The bride and groom mysteriously disappeared after the ceremony. They finally appeared at the reception and all went well. I still wonder what they were doing? =)

The reception was held at this historic mansion which is part of a private college - The Brinkerhoff House. www.brinkerhoffhome.org/

The bride is a native of France, the groom a native of my hometown, living in Minneapolis, Minnesota now.

There was much rejoicing and love.

I tried to capture it as best I could. More later.

Gimmie An A Please

440 Hz

The standardized pitch is A above middle C, used to tune instruments prior to a concert. At least in modern orchestras.

Before confirmation liturgy began last night, all the instruments tuned up. I have a built in tuner on my guitar, so I didn’t need to tune to the piano (We’re not aiming for perfect pitch, just one that’s mostly on pitch).

This violinist was also one of the 77 confirmants. A nice way to get some real performance time in front of a very packed house.

If she was nervous, as I suspect she was, her performance didn’t show it. Nicely played and later she did some group singing that worked out well too.

I, of course, had to take this one snap, during tuning, prior to the “No Cameras Allowed” speech. =)

I like the half face view, surrounded by the mike stands and the Celtic harp to the right, and the choirmaster in the foreground.

Music soothed us all. All on pitch.

We had a hum dinger of a storm just blow through.

At one point it got so bad, I quickly got up, packed away my camera and stood in an interior door frame. It’s not blown that hard around here for a while.

I got home before the storm hit, and was inspired by the lightening and dark clouds in the distance to take this photo.

I wanted to capture the dark sky, me, and the tree outside on my deck, next to our sunroom.

I used the pop-up flash on my Pentax K20D, and the Gary Fong Puffer light diffuser to smooth out the light. The trick was getting the right focus.

Just what was the right focus? Well, it turns out to be more of the tree and not so much of me. As the last of several attempts was snapped, the downpour started. Total time from concept to last frame could not have been more than 5 minutes. I knew I had to think and act fast.

As always, light and the photo opportunities are fleeting.

I quickly ran inside and wiped off camera. Before I was able to see what I had captured, I was moved to find safety!

All ok now, just some gentle rain. I hope it stays that way.

Tomorrow, a wedding and memories of a lifetime to capture. I may be very late to post my photos, or very early if I do a pre-emptive post. =)

My Sister Trish

Trish and I joind the main choir tonight for the confirmation liturgy of our young adults at church. 77 of them.

I took my camera and got a few snaps off prior to the start of things. Good thing too as there was a very pointed announcement to all about not taking photos during church. I complied. =)

Trish plays a set of chimes for certain songs. You can see the mallet that she uses tostrike the chimes in her hand.

She’s quite an energy dynamo. She usually arrives at school (Kindergarten school teacher) around 6AM and most days does not leave until after 5PM or much later. Tonight she probably got home around 9:30PM. I’m not sure where she gets the energy. Perhaps she draws it from her usually highly energetic kindergarteners.

A nice candid of my dear sister, Trish.

Ok, so this is two in a row of shared self and with help portraits.

Bear with me, please. =)

Chris took this one last weekend, as he was testing out my rented lens.

His comment was “Oh Wow!” when he saw how nice the lens performs.

I’ve had a few oh wow moments with this combination as well.

I’m looking forward to having many of those thrilling moments at this weekend’s wedding that I’m covering.

Making the magic appear in the photo is what’s very exciting in what I do with a camera. Capturing the emotion so that it cam be remembered and relived once more.

That’s an “Oh Wow!” bunch of fun for me.
