Reaching Out With Color

My bride had a dead watch battery, and I came to the rescue.

On my way to a parking spot, outside the watch repair facility, I saw something like this scene.

I say something like it, because the clouds were moving swiftly apart, and the light, as all sunsets do, was changing by the second.

I had my camera ready. I lowered my window, checked for traffic in the parking lot and determined I was safe. I aimed, framed and fired off two shots.

I like this one better of the two.

It reminds me of Michelangelo’s painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican in Rome, depicting God giving life to Adam. Adam on the left and God on the right. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Creation_of_Adam.jpg

I love sunsets and how the light paints on clouds.

Hanging around like an old dust cloth.

This is a combination of images - in case you wondered.

I took the cloth photo today in my office. It’s what I use to “erase” my dry-erase whiteboard and full-year calendar.

I grabbed another photo of me from my self-centered collection, and combined them in Corel Paint Shop Photo Pro X2. You could also use Photoshop or any program which allows the use of layers.

I cropped the photo of me, resized and rotated it so it fit in the fold of the cloth.

I then brought that in to the cloth photo as a 2nd layer.

I set the photo of me to 65% opaque, so you can see the weave of the cloth through my face.

Then I used set the combination of layers to dissolve, which further matched the two photos together.

A little erasing here and there of my face, flatten the two layers and here you are.

Just me, once more.

Snow Trees

One evergreen, surrounded by naked not-so-evergreen trees.

The sky blue contrasted with the snow and the bare tree limbs.

The corridor that the trees make leading my eye forward.

All elements which caught my eye, and made me back up to grab this photo.

I’m keeping my eyes open for things of visual interest. They’re usually right in front of me, if I look.

Sometimes changing the angle of view brings out the hidden in plain sight interest.

Other times, like this, it’s just a matter of having all the elements come together, and of me seeing them.

Foolin’ around with macro.

I had to hold a white led flashlight pointed at a 45 degree angle to my eye for this to work.

I have been told I have hazel colored eyes - blue green gold. This looks more blue to me. I’ve also heard that hazel eyes look different in different light.

I’m really smiling in this, but you sure can’t tell.

I used my reversing on my 50mm lens for this. Even stopped down, the plane of focus is very narrow from front to back. I think the top of the curve of my eye is in focus, but the iris is not. Pretty narrow.

Just fooling around, trying to learn my way around all the tools available to me.

The eyes have it!

A bit of black & white.

I have what is my typical quizical look.

I was wondering about something happening on the camera.

I tilt up my glasses to the “no-line” bifocal portion, to get a better view. One of the advantages of getting older is this neck exercise. =)

Snow Duty

After our snow of a few weeks ago, there was a bunch of the stuff to move around.

Needing to clear up parking lots at a local mall, this fellow is on duty.

Just wish he didn’t have the cigarette going.

High Voltage Crossing

Found at a boat launch site on Lake Springfield.

I was driving around Lake Springfield, looking for new places for photography - new to me.

I found this boat launch site near the Beach House - a public beach area.

So I’m walking around, taking photos of interesting trees, the lake, etc. when I spy this sign.

Danger - Use Caution - High Voltage Power Lines Cross Lake Springfield At Locations Indicated On This Board

To the left you can spot the smokestacks of the City Water, Light & Power plant, which provides electricity for our city and some surrounding areas.

Makes me wonder if any of those power lines are buried beneath the lake and not just on overhead lines.

Water + Electricity = A frightening combination.
