See my other photo for an out of focus self portrait. Hence my alternate title.
Playing with colored and snooted (tube to spot the light) flash.
One Vivitar 285 flash has a blue gel on it, pointed at the floor. The other has a long snoot (roll of kraft foam) taped to it and pointed at my face.
My Pentax K10D is on a tripod, which is standing on a table next to me.
I’ve got a remote focus-shutter switch plugged into the camera.
Point a flashlight at my face to focus, press the switch and start the 10 second countdown.
This is your Blue Light Special portrait of me.

I took advantage of the snow for a try at a fancy, smancy photo.
It’ sort of worked.
I had a snoot (tube) on my flash, pointed at my face. I had the exposure time set for a long shutter, to get the other light of the landscape.
I grabbed a handful of snow to throw up, adding to the flakes coming down.
One thing missing: focus.
Oh well.
I could have reshot till I got it right, but the snow had nearly frozen my hand. It took about 10 minutes for the feeling to come back in my hand. Yikes!
So you get this one, attempt.
Stay warm out there. Hope your focus is sharp. =)

Together in marriage for nearly 30 years – this October.
I like the combination of her lavendar and my blue.
I kept wiping the shine off my forehead. Sweat is one of my “features” which get in my way from time to time.
I may have “sweat” to get this photo done, but I had fun with my sweetie doing it.
She puts up with a bunch.

My bride.
Her birthday was the 19th, but she was in Chicago for her work.
I called her at the end of our work day today, asking what she might want for dinner.
“I’m really wanting a steak!” So we’re having leftovers. =)
I did go to the grocery store for needed restocking of our larder. I picked up some beef for my honey.
She kindly put up with my asking to take this portrait tonight.
I love her deeply.
Can you tell?

The wind is blowing from the mid-20mph, gusting to potentially 60mph!
It is time for a warmup photo. =)
From an earlier trip, I saw this one and chose it.
I like the highway (I’m on a crossing overpass), with a couple of cars on it. The setting sun lighting up the landscape with it’s golden light, and the sky with a pallate of colors.
Warms me up.

The weather will go from the 50′sF to 12F tomorrow night. Ushered in with much wind.
I had nothing in mind for my photo of the day. Well, I did have one thing in mind, but the outdoors conditions removed that idea from my list.
As I was walking in to set my camera bag down. I spied this goblet. Ah-Ha!
A plate of glass, a couple of books to hold it up. Wireless flash underneath with some tissue paper to soften the light a touch. Set the camera on the tripod and use the wired remote trigger.
I left the tungsten-based lights on behind me. It give almost the illusion of fire in the goblet. =)
I balanced the ambient light and the flash using a long exposure.
A bit of Lightroom magic fairy dust, and here you are.
I like it.
I almost titled it the goblet of fire, but that’s been used before.
