Mr. Lincoln’s Home

The only home owned by Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States of America.

Found in Springfield, Illinois

My hometown.

I’ve grown up with the word Lincoln meaning the man and not the car.

Lincoln lived here for most of his adult life.

His remains are enshrined here in monument at one of the local cemeteries.

The building where he plied his trade as a lawyer still stands here, in restored condition.

The State Capitol building where he served as a State Legislator, has been taken apart and put back together stone by stone. It stands today restored to a condition of the period of the mid-1800′s.

This home of the Lincoln family has likewise been taken apart and put back together so that it appears to be stuck in the time when Abraham & Mary lived there with their boys.

I dropped by tonight for a photograph.

The home is on a two block area which has homes that have slowly been restored to the Lincoln era. The sidewalks are wooden, there’s stone steps leading to no-where which serve for horse-riders to dismount, and out back there’s at least a one if not two hole out-house behind the homes here.

A very awe-inspiring area, especially at night, when I felt as if I was walking back in time as I made my way down the street.

I invite you to come see for yourselves, the history found and preserved here.

  1. Unique, contemplative shot. And great summation of his mark on our own hometown. Mom took us to this home every Lincoln’s birthday, which was an Illinois holiday on February 12.
