Halloween Eye

Not exactly in focus, but then it was a difficult shot.

I had my 50mm f1.4 reversed, hand held, which turns it into a close-up macro.

It also has no focus other than moving the camera or the subject closer to the lens.

This is one of about 40 frames.

In the reflection of my pupil, you can see my hands, holding the lens to the camera body, and pressing the shutter.

I think I need a reversing ring – which would give me one hand for other uses, as well as mount the lens to the camera safely.

Here’s looking at you, kid. =)

Rainbow Clouds

This rainbow cloud appeared tonight on my way home.

I pulled over in a parking lot and grabbed this frame.

Rainbows are one of those wonders of this world which fascinate me.

Roy G. Biv – Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Indigo, Violet – a mnemonic for the visible spectrum.

Another reminder that there are many things not usually visible, which, when revealed are awesome.

9 Laylas

9 faces of Layla at 6 months.

Not my idea, her mom’s!

I like how it looks.

Such an expressive face. Can you tell she’s loved?

Thanks for the idea, Monica. =)

My sweetie and me. =)

Taking a break from our walk in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens this Sunday afternoon.

We had church (singing together in the choir), a birthday celebration meal for our daughter-in-law Jennie’s birthday, then a nice walk in the garden by the lake.

The Fall leaves are peaking and already down, it’s a different year for Fall color. Not all the trees are turning colors at once.

Still, there is great beauty to be seen.

There’s one beauty on my right above!

Capitol Sky

Driving past the Old State Capitol this afternoon, I saw this light and sky combination.

The sandstone blocks of this building have been around since State Representative Abraham Lincoln worked under the dome.

A long time.

The sandstone color is highlighted by the late afternoon sun.

The lightning rod, with it’s rust red color stands in stark contrast to the deep blue sky with just a hint of cloud.

I found it interesting.

Hopefully you will as well.

Pop Goes Johanna

Having fun with desaturation. I wasn’t too impressed with the results, but Karen said she liked it.

So.

Here it is.

I have had an old Vivitar 135mm f2.8 M42 mount (screw mount) lens which I picked up for a pittance from a retiring photographer a while back. I didn’t spend the time to get to know it, and had relegated it to my backup bag (had not seen the sun shine for a couple of months).

I have been wanting a good prime (non-zoom) lens with a wide aperture for low-light shooting. I thought back to this lens, and resolved to give it another go.

I am glad I did.

This is a tack sharp lens, which I just have to use and get experience with. The lens is fine. I’m the one who needs to get better. =)

Anywho, I was taking photos of Johanna, for practice, working at locking in focus.

She was as cooperative as a cat of 18 years can be.

This pose is as still as she got all night.

Just for you.

And for me.

A bit of desaturation of all but the orange and yellow sliders in Lightroom, and here you are.

Dark Church Light Icon Glow

Fooling around prior to choir practice tonight.

I went into the darkened sanctuary.

It was so dark, I had to use my flashlight to find my way.

I set up in the back of the church, where the baptismal fountain is located.

I used it to steady my camera for a long exposure of the stained glass at the far end.

Under the cross is a set of icons, depicting Jesus in the center with saints on either side.

I wasn’t aiming to get the icons, I thought it would be too dark.

On this one frame, out of about 10 sets of exposures, the icons were glowing.

Why? I’m not sure.

Perhaps reflections of car headlights passing on the street behind this wall.

It sure gives an ethereal glow to the scene.
