The end of the Summer concert series for the Springfield Municipal Band.

They went out with a bang – the Stars & Stripes Forever, with the Brass section out front.

It was a hot and humid night, but the crowd was pretty big and enthusiastic.

These folks are the musical cream of the area. Very talented and very dedicated to good music.

Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, from 7:30 to 9PM they put on a concert of a variety of show tunes, overtures, waltzes, marches, and do it well.

They usually have a community non-profit organization such as a church or a Boy-Scout troupe put on an ice-cream social in the nearby open air pavilion. This night, there were none scheduled. Too bad, with the heat, they would have sold out quickly.

It was my father-in-law Tom’s last concert in the park. The band has a handful of concerts left in their 2007 season, but no more at the park band shell.

He went out singing My Way, made popular by Frank Sinatra.

His way, and this band’s way are just fine with me.
