Monica
My niece.
With my magic wand in her hand.
The wand was a gift long ago, which I’ve kept at work. I pull it out to wave when a bit of magic is needed. Many folks pick it up and play with it. It’s full of glittery things – stars, circles, etc. of all colors, suspended in a viscous liquid. Fun to watch flow back and forth.
I am fortunate. My niece works in the same building as I do. We see each other more often than if we worked miles apart. I like that.
Monica stopped by to discuss an issue which was vexing her, and I tried to help out. Perhaps I did. We had fun just talking for a few minutes. The comfort of family in the conversation.
Of course, I had to take a photo, or two or seven to be exact.
Monica declared as I was snapping away, “Oh, I suppose I’ll be the Picture of the Day, today!”
Yup. ![]()

If this is who I think it is, then I went to high school with Monica.
She was class of 1994; I was ‘93. Our different social circles overlapped, enabling us to hang out together quite often.
Nice seeing you again, Monica.
Actually, I was in the class of 1995. Who are you?
Yes, the class of 1995. It has been a while.
In order to protect my double-secret online identity, I’ll give you the following clue: I lead row 2 on page 109 of your 1993 Spartan yearbook. Kathy says “Hi,” as well.
I just went to double check, but I figured it out with Kathy’s hello. Hi! How is your family? We are about to (in 11 days) have baby #2. Matt has some really cool photos. Are you still into photography?
Monica, congratulations on the addition to your family. Mine turn 6 and 3 in about three weeks. The Girl was born April 2; The Boy on April 4.
Although I wasn’t as into photography per se as some of my friends, I very much enjoy this photoblog.
Small world, huh?
