I grabbed this portrait of Jennie last night.

She tolerates my incessant camera-clicking very well (Thanks Jennie!).

Tonight, I saw a high-contrast effect on strobist.com and tried it out.

I almost took a pass on this image, but I’m glad I tried out some processing techniques on it.

To me, it has the look of a movie still.

Jennie’s eyes have that intensity of attention that says she is focused on the other (in this case, my bride Karen).

The grain and high contrast adds to the un-reality, along with the high back-light (from the dining room chandelier). The back light is what prompted me to capture Jennie from this angle. The light is directly behind her head.

I like it, the more I look at it.
