Museum and Park at Night

Museum and Park at Night

Doing my daily photoshoot, I decided to try some more HDR, High Dynamic Range, photos.

This one is of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and the park which is across the street from it. Six exposures. Using Photomatix Pro software.

I’m just learning and it’s fun!

Family Photo 1956

Family Photo 1956

That’s me with Teddy Bear. I’m the last of eight children born to Howard and Jean Penning. My oldest brother, Larry, just celebrated his 72 birthday. That puts me at 52.

How my mother and father ever did it, I’ll never know. I’m just forever grateful that they did.

Happy Birthday to my brother Larry. Hugs always. Little brother Matt.

Sunrise on Hilton Head

Sunrise on Hilton Head

Taken with my now dearly departed, as in stolen, Olympus C2100UZ, a delightful camera with a wonderful lens.

Some of the most beautiful beach views anywhere. Karen and I try to make it down there once a year to restore our souls and give our love some together time. Our busy lives need that restoration. We feel like it’s a honeymoon all over again.

Sleeping at night with the sound of the ocean is a tonic of rare (to this Mid-Westerner) relaxation. The smell of the saltwater in the air within the cool breezes clears out all my sinuses and gives me energy.

Hilton Head, South Carolina has some great building limitations which create a green paradise. I recall our first trip, and not being able to see the Wal-Mart from the road for all the trees and sign limitations.

There’s a town nearby, Beaufort, which has an historic district with much of the area untouched by the Civil War destruction. Many examples of homes and structures from the antibellum period. History in stone and wood. Full of fascinating shops, restaurants and places to explore. Be sure to try the she-crab soup!

Family

Family

My sister Trish and my brother John, my nearest in age siblings (there are 8 of us!).

This was taken on the porch of our home at the corner of Lawrence Ave. and Feldkamp St. in Springfield, Illinois. The home still is there, looking much like it did in this photo taken in 1957.

There’s a golf course within a couple of blocks of this house, but I cannot recall ever going there – we moved around the time of this photo.

I remember a couple of things. There was a air grate in the floor of one of the bedrooms upstairs, which looked down on a den below. We used to spy on my oldest brother Larry and his fiance Beverly pitching woo below us. Full of the Dickens is what our Mother called us kids. And we certainly were!

My sister Trish is my dearest and nearest sister (Mary Anne is 2nd – sorry Mary Anne!). We still attend the same church parish in which we grew up together. We both sing in the choir – I play guitar and sing a variation of a baritone, and she’s an alto and getting lower all the time, and plays miscellaneous percussion.

John, known as the black sheep of the family, as he was the only one of us with black hair (Like Dad did!), isn’t really a black sheep. He is the smartest, or about the smartest of the 8 of us. He has a memory which is unbelievable. Great at trivial contests.

I also remember putting books in my wagon, to take to the car when we moved. We all loved to read. Mom and Dad were voracious readers and passed it on to us kids. Thanks Mom and Dad!

DONOT Downtown

DONOT Downtown

A HDR shot – my first. Photos which are comprised of multiple pictures taken of the same subject with varying exposure levels, then combined into one photo with a wide dynamic range.

Taken in downtown Springfield, IL from the parking lot in back of the INB building. Looking towards the intersection of 6th and Jefferson.

The building in the center is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

Pink flowers for Boss’s Day, from my staff

Taken with my Treo 650 PDA-Phone.

We had a Boss’s day potluck today. I bought pizza (I know, but I enjoyed doing it!), and others brought lots of goodies, including bananas and salad for me.

Later on, one of my groups brought these in with a card that says: “Bosses are such important people that they have a special day for them… But don’t get a big head over it, we also have one for groundhogs!” I laughed.

I used to eat flowers as a toddler, and still have the urge. These smelled great, almost good enough to eat!
